013. RESILIENCE
What makes a person, a group, an organization resilient? In what ways does our culture build or detract from resilience?
The tardigrade (also known as the water bear) is the most resilient creature known to science. This microscopic organism can withstand the vacuum of space, harsh radiation, and extreme heat and cold.
It's able to withstand such harsh conditions because, although it's a water-based creature, it has adapted to cycles of drought. In the absence of water, a tardigrade will slow down their metabolism and can go without a drop of water for decades. When times improve, they can reboot and rehydrate.
Fascinating!
What could we learn from tardigrades about our own resilience? What makes a person, a group, an organization resilient? In what ways does our culture build or detract from resilience?
